Race Report MXGP Lettland 1

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Pilot Jeremy Seewer näherte sich im spannenden zweiten Rennen einem Laufsieg in der dritten Runde der FIM Motocross Weltmeisterschaft in Kegums, Lettland. Der 26-jährige Schweizer sicherte sich im 1.Lauf 16 Punkte auf der 5.Position und im 2.Lauf den 2.Platz und konnte sich 22 weitere Punkte sichern.
Das aufgrund von Corona abgeänderte eintägige Format von MXGP ermöglicht keine Zeit für ein Qualifikationsrennen, was bedeute, dass die Fahrer erforderliche Set-Up Änderungen an ihren 450er Bikes und eine schnelle Runde in einer Trainingseinheit absolvieren mussten.
Die Rundenzeiten beim Time-Practice lagen sehr nahe beieinander, Seewer lag mit einer Runde von 1:55.174 weniger als 1 Sekunde auf dem zweiten Platz hinter Tim Gajser.
ERSTES RENNEN: Im Eröffnungsrennen, gelang es Tonus und Seewer ihre Bikes gut zu platzieren. Sie kamen gut aus dem Gatter und lagen in der ersten Kurve in den Top 5. In der Hektik der ersten Runde lag Seewer auf Platz 8. Seewer war fit, schnell und wachsam, diese Kombination ermöglichte ihm die 4. Position. Kurz vor Ende des 1. Rennens, überholte Herlings Seewer und so beendet er das Rennen auf der fünften Position.
ZWEITES RENNEN: Seewer startete gut und verfolgte direkt den amtierenden Weltmeister Tim Gajser auf Platz 3 und lieferte einen spannenden Kampf um den zweiten Platz.
5 Minuten vor dem Ende des 2. Rennen fiel Gajser, als er versuchte Glenn Coldenhoff zu überholen. Somit lag Seewer auf dem zweiten Platz. Durch den Sturz von Gajser konnte der 26-jährige Schweizer Star die Chance auf einen ersten MXGP-Rennsieg 2020 wahrnehmen. Er verkürzte den Abstand zu Coldenhoff auf 1 Sekunde in der letzten Runde des Rennens und setzte alles auf eine Karte, als er die Herausforderung für den Sieg annahm. Seewer erreichte die Zielflagge 1 Sekunde hinter Coldenhoff und erzielte einen fantastischen 2. Platz.
Die nächste Runde der FIM Motocross Weltmeisterschaft findet am Mittwoch, den 12. August auf derselben Strecke in Kegums, Lettland statt.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Jeremy Seewer neared a maiden race victory after a thrilling last-lap charge in the final race at the third round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Kegums, Latvia. The 26-year-old Swiss rider added the 22-points scored for second position to the 16-points he scored for fifth in the first race, to finish fourth overall, 2-points shy of the podium.
The new one-day format in MXGP does not allow time for a Qualifying Race, which means the riders need to make any required changes to the set-up of their YZ450FM’s in one practice session, and in that same practice session, they need to put in a fast lap. The lap times in Timed Practice were close with less than 1-second splitting Jeremy Seewer in second position with a 1:55.174 lap.
RACE ONE: In the opening race, Tonus and Seewer had their YZ450FM’s well-placed after rocketing out of the gate to enter turn-one inside the top-five. Seewer got shuffled back to eighth in the frantic hustle of the first lap. Seewer was fit, fast and vigilant in his pursuit to fourth position which he inherited. Seewer was nudged back to fifth at the flag by Jeffrey Herlings.
There is always talk of a first turn crash here in Kegums with its infamous 180-degree right-hander renown for the havoc it causes. While all three riders got around it cleanly in the opening race,
RACE TWO: Seewer put chase to the reigning World Champion Tim Gajser and entered a thrilling battle for second place. With 5 minutes left on the clock, Gajser fell while attempting a pass on Glenn Coldenhoff for the lead gifting Seewer second position.
With Gajser down, the 26-year-old Swiss star could sense an opportunity for a first-ever MXGP race win. He cut the gap to Coldenhoff down to 1-second going into the final lap of the race and put it all on the line as he took the challenge for the win to the flag.
The next round of the FIM Motocross World Championship will take place in two days, on Wednesday 12thAugust, right here in Kegums, Latvia.
